Description

Verde Key Police Detective Bev Henderson is faced with her first cold case when a skeleton is snagged by local residents out fishing. Once the victim is identified, his wife is stunned to learn he was murdered instead of deserting her forty years ago as she had thought. Regular crime is not taking a break though as other cases take priority. in the process, links to the dead man emerge as Bev weaves thin threads together to develop likely scenarios as to who murdered him and why. is the widow as innocent as she seems or is she hiding more than one secret? With no useful forensics evidence, will this be the one time in Bev’s career she can’t solve a case?

  1. S Riv –

Another great murder mystery by Charlie Hudson! Intricately detailed and gripping, involving two separate crimes, and based in Charlie’s hero, Detective Bev Henderson’s, home of Verde Key, the novel is fast-paced and hard to put down. The book is one of many Charlie has written that has an underlying theme of scuba diving in Key Largo, FL. Fun reading!

  2. Nancy Coppola –

I enjoyed reading this book, A “Who Dunnit” without the blood and gore. We never know until the very end. I love the setting in the Florida Keys, and the description of the food made me continuously hungry!

  3. Kimwolf –

When fishermen off the quiet coast of Verde Key pull a human skeleton from the water, Detective Bev Henderson is handed the most unsettling case of her career, her first true cold case. The remains belong to a man who vanished four decades ago, leaving behind a wife who believed he had simply walked away from their life together. For forty years, the town accepted that story. But the deeper Henderson digs, the more the past begins to unravel. Piece by piece, Henderson reconstructs a truth hidden for decades—through fading evidence, reluctant witnesses, and whispers people would rather keep buried. And one chilling question refuses to fade: Did the victim’s wife lose her husband… or has she been living beside his murder for forty years?

In a story-within-a-story, a woman has fled to Verde Key bringing a deadly secret of her own. Preventing another murder must take priority as the small town’s police resources are stretched thin. I didn’t know there was another book in this series and it may be the best one yet.
